What is probability that a blue snapper fish will be caught by humans in its lifetime?

October 23rd, 2011 Comments off

Question by bipin_prasad: What is probability that a blue snapper fish will be caught by humans in its lifetime?
Seems that the answer can be obtained by calculating two numbers,
1. (Blue snapper caught per day) * (average lifespan of blue snapper fish)
2. Estimated total population of blue snapper
Then divide 1 by 2.
But what are those numbers?

Best answer:

Answer by im
Ah, yes, what are those numbers. It’s very hard to take a census of fish.

How often should I clean my fish tank?

August 8th, 2011 5 comments

Question by nilla wafer: How often should I clean my fish tank?
I have a 2.5 gallon fish tank and 3 very small fish that won’t get much larger. I have a filter, gravel, and 2 small plants in there. It’s all brand new so I havent put my fish in the new tank yet. It says the filter should operate 24 hours prior to putting the fish in the tank. How often should I clean it once my fish are in there?
the fish are a 3/4 inch goldfish (who is about to die), a 1 1/4 inch black moor (who according to the salesman won’t grow more than a 1/2 inch bigger), and a 1/2 inch longfin rosy barb
I have a 5 gallon tank. Should I use that too and split them up until I get a new tank that will be bigger and better for them?

Best answer:

Answer by Rach/Dan2673
to prevent from having to clean it all the time you should purchase some alagie eaters they help keep the dirt out. Also if your tank is by a window or by any sun light it will get dirty much faster. I would say it depends on the type of fish. Never purchase gold fish they are very dirty

Fish Oil Explained Thanks To Unveiling of New Website “fishoil.com”

Boston, MA (PRWEB) February 8, 2010

More and more research from around the world suggests that consumption of fish oil not only offers tremendous health benefits, but that fish oil can help fight off serious medical illnesses.

The launch of the new website fishoil.com attempts to provide the average person with some clarity about Omega 3 fatty acids that are found in fish oil. Fishoil.com is an independent information resource that includes accurate and up-to-date information about fish oil and Omega 3 fatty acids.

Most people have probably heard about the numerous benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids from fish oil but they probably don’t know what all the fuss is about. Fish oil is simply oil derived from fish, and Omega 3 fatty acids are a chain of unsaturated fat that the body needs but cannot produce on its own; therefore it must be obtained from food sources, namely fish and other seafood.

With the barrage of information surrounding Omega 3 fatty acids these days, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and misinformed about the many benefits that fish oil has to offer. Much of today’s information about fish oil on the world wide web, is either too complicated to comprehend or the content is provided by vitamin companies looking to sell their brand of fish oil supplements to the unknowing consumer.

Fishoil.com presents information in laymen’s terms about fish oil’s role in healing, cognitive development, cardiovascular function and liver function to name a few. The website also talks about various sources of Omega 3 fatty acids as well as their potential side effects.

For more information about fish oil or Omega 3 fatty acids and their role in overall health and well-being visit http://www.fishoil.com.

Fish oil for improved health: Why everyman should consume fish oil supplements or eat plenty of fish

August 8th, 2011 Comments off

Fish oil supplements are not created equal. Fish oil contains two omega-3 fatty acids, namely eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA and docosahexaenoic acid or DHA which are extraordinarily effective in controlling acne. Fish Oil capsules contain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids that are found in oil from certain types of fish, vegetables, and other plant sources. Fish Oil is only part of a complete program of treatment that also includes diet, exercise, and weight control. Fish oil

What is a good small tank fish and what plastic tanks are safe?

August 7th, 2011 2 comments

Question by Melinda H: What is a good small tank fish and what plastic tanks are safe?
I’m possibly getting a new fish. I want to get a plastic or glass vase from Walmart and just get a small fish but I only know of one fish that can survive in such a small tank and that’s the Betta. So I need to know what plastics are safe for fish and I want to know if any other fish can survive in such a small tank. Thanks ahead of time!

Best answer:

Answer by FFAFish
A Betta fish can not even. No fish can live in plastic tanks or vases. they all need real tanks with heaters and filters and proper weekly water changes and a varied diet. Fish are not toys. how would you like me to lock you in a 6 inch room with no air, lights, a flake or pellet once a day, no heat, and no filter and no toilet? you wouldnt like it either. Niether would the fish. Get a 10 gallon tank and cycle your tank properly. Then get small schooling fish Eg. neon tetras.

Note: goldfish need very large tanks. they are large and messy

What kind of small fish could I get for an office aquarium?

August 7th, 2011 4 comments

Question by lesama1216: What kind of small fish could I get for an office aquarium?
I want to have at least 2 fish (to name after my bosses) and 1 bottom-feeder something or other to name after the VP. Something easy to maintain, i am not a die hard fish enthusiast; but, also want to be humane to fish. What kind of small fish can I mix and how many gallons of water would be needed for your suggestion. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by SpotsB4myeyes
you could try two guppies and an alge eater or shrimp in a five gallon tank. you will need to syphon the bottom once a week, and hood and light, heater, filter, gravel, water treatment, cleaning supplies, and of course, the fish.

look at craig’s list or in your paper for deals on aquarium and equipment. people move or change hobbies, you win.

Tanks Direct, LLC Successfully Launches BioRBFishTanks.com, a New Branch of FishTanksDirect.com Featuring Unique, Hi-Tech Fish Bowls

Plainfield, IL (PRWEB) May 23, 2007

John Bielanski of Tanks Direct, LLC, proud owner of FishTanksDirect.com, has successfully launched a new branch of the latest fine quality aquariums at BiOrBFishTanks.com. BiOrB Fish tanks are the ultimate unique aquarium system that combine the aesthetic appeal of a traditional fish bowl with a high tech performance filtration system.

The BiOrb fish tank looks like a traditional goldfish bowl but has an unusual, low maintenance filtration system to keep it clean. Whether a person has a great deal of experience owning fish or is a novice, a BiOrb fish tank offers unbeatable convenience with incredible beauty. The specialized filtration system in the BiOrb fish tank is simple and changing the cartridge does not even require emptying the water. Water in the BiOrb fish tank stays crystal clear for months between cartridge changes, which makes it easy to maintain. Fish in the BiOrb will enjoy a healthy environment and busy aquarium owners can have the peaceful pleasure of owning a low maintenance fish tank.

BiOrb fish tanks are often used in accordance with the popular concept of Feng Shui, which is considered to be a way of decorating to transform bad energy. The BiOrb fish tank is considered to be ideal for good Feng Shui because of its intricate filtration system, low voltage lighting and bubbling water. People often put two goldfish in a BioRb fish tank to represent energy and good luck, along with a black goldfish to represent protection. A BiOrB with a green lid and base placed in the dining room, office or living room is believed to increase ambition and health. A BiOrb with a black or blue lid and base is supposed to boost career possibilities. Regardless, a BiOrb fish tank adds a positive, relaxing feel to any room.

Because BiOrb aquariums are eye-catching, easy to care for and offer positive energy, many celebrities have chosen to own them recently. Famous folks that can’t resist the allure of the BiOrb fish tank include Nicole Kidman, Jim Carrey, Gwyneth Paltrow and James Gandolofini.

The BiOrb is a practical choice because of its safe, strong construction along with an ideal 360 degree viewing angle. Just like other acrylic aquariums the globe of the bowl is made from durable Plexiglass and gives fish more swimming space than a traditional fish bowl. The filter design combines a five stage system of cleaning through mechanical, chemical and biological filtration. The air pump and filter for the BiOrb fish tank is cleverly hidden in its base. The overall design of this incredible aquarium is beneficial for both the fish and the keeper of fish.

Tanks Direct, LLC, have offered acrylic fish tanks and BiOrb fish bowls through FishTanksDirect.com for years. Because of the increasing popularity of BiOrb fish tanks, Tanks Direct, LLC has decided to launch a colorful new website at BiOrbFishTanks.com to focus solely on the sale of these fine aquariums. Visit BiOrbFishTanks.com to select from a incredible variety of impressive, low maintenance, relaxing BiOrb fish tanks and accessories.

Fish Ladder Closed for Cleaning at Chittenden Locks in Ballard May 24-June 4

Seattle, WA (Vocus) May 22, 2010 —

The fish ladder at the Chittenden Locks in Ballard will be closed for annual maintenance May 24 until June 4. Most of the fish ladder plaza area and the ramp to the viewing room will be closed to the public. North-south traffic will be unaffected.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, which operates the Locks, conducts maintenance work on the fish ladder every spring prior to the time when adult salmon begin migrating upstream to spawn.

The fish ladder annually allows tens of thousands of salmon to migrate safely into the fresh water of Lakes Union and Washington. Last year approximately 33,702 sockeye, 5,082 chinook and 20,732 coho adult salmon were counted in the fish ladder on their way upstream.

For current information about activities at the locks, visit the Corps of Engineers Web site at http://www.nws.usace.army.mil and select “Dams and Locks” then “Lake Washington Ship Canal” from the left column.

Question by Zeviel: fish??????????????????????????
well i found these steam pots in the supermarket, in it is salmon, baby potato’s, green bean’s, broccoli and it has a mint dressing on it.. its only 300cals… i really love it! and they are cheap but i really like fish so i’ve been having a little bit of extra fish with it.. its just a bit of frozen white fish and its 80 cals.. so 380 cals per meal…

how many times a week can i have fish? i dont know if theres some limit on eating fish.. and does it sound ok to eat? i find it really good as i’m on a diet and its a great one potion and i cant over eat on it :)

any help would be nice :) thanks..

*i asked this somewhere before and someone said i should eat fish!!
really pee’d me off since i dont like most foods :( now i’m not sure about anything*
i’m not a fan of tuna unless its fresh :) but thanks for the help.. me thinks on pay day i’m going to buy some more fish.. the one i have is just plain white frozen fish.. i do try to buy as much fresh as i can but i dont always have time to eat it so frozen is the best for me..

Best answer:

Answer by barbara b
you could have it everyday, well until you get fed up with it. I eat fish about 4 times a week, I love it, salmon, tuna, mackerel, haddock, cod, mussels, etc. etc. There is so much variety to choose from.

It is good diet food too, I’d have one or two days where I’d eat red meat, and the other I might just have vegetarian food.

The worst thing about dieting is limiting the choice of food you make available to yourself, so try , for your own sake to have variations in the diet.

Good luck, need to go on one myself, just need to get started… :-(

oh and also some of my friends keep telling me because they die easily is it true if so which fish could i get that doesn’t die easily

Best answer:

Answer by catx
How are you trying to keep the fish? Goldfish should live over 15 years. They need large, over filtered and fully established tanks. If you’re trying to keep it in a bowl, that’s like you living in a wardrobe with very little air and no toilet!

So no fish should die easily if they’re kept correctly! Keep a fish incorrectly, it will keel over dead pretty sharpish. If you have fish that die easily you need to do some proper research on fish care because it will be something you are doing wrong!
