What kind of small fish could I get for an office aquarium?

August 7th, 2011 4 comments

Question by lesama1216: What kind of small fish could I get for an office aquarium?
I want to have at least 2 fish (to name after my bosses) and 1 bottom-feeder something or other to name after the VP. Something easy to maintain, i am not a die hard fish enthusiast; but, also want to be humane to fish. What kind of small fish can I mix and how many gallons of water would be needed for your suggestion. Thanks!

Answer by SpotsB4myeyes
you could try two guppies and an alge eater or shrimp in a five gallon tank. you will need to syphon the bottom once a week, and hood and light, heater, filter, gravel, water treatment, cleaning supplies, and of course, the fish.

look at craig’s list or in your paper for deals on aquarium and equipment. people move or change hobbies, you win.

Q&A: How do I start a freshwater fish aquarium?

July 28th, 2011 5 comments

Question by Brittany: How do I start a freshwater fish aquarium?
I have a 20 gallon tank. I want to know what you need to set it up. Also I want to know what fish get along with each other. I don’t want Tropical Fish. I want to have that one fish that you always see on the glass sucking the algae. What fish get along with that? Do you have a 20 gallon aquarium at home and if you do what fish do you have and what equipment do you have.

What’s a cool freshwater fish to put into a home aquarium?

July 25th, 2011 4 comments

Question by Mark Berdson: What’s a cool freshwater fish to put into a home aquarium?
I was originally going to get a salt water tank, but, thinking that it’s too much work, I would rather get a freshwater tank/fish. However, I don’t want to sacrifice the looks of the fish inside? Not meaning putting a saltwater fish in a freshwater tank, I mean I want my fish to look great. Any cool looking fish that are freshwater? They’re no limitations.

I’d raise African Cichlids. Easy to raise, feed and great to watch. They provide lots of color, and are aggressive.

What are the best kinds of fish to keep in a hexagon shaped aquarium?

July 20th, 2011 3 comments

Question by Jessica V: What are the best kinds of fish to keep in a hexagon shaped aquarium?
My parents have a hexagon shaped tank in their house and they stock it with fish that never seem to live as long as they should. I would like my parent’s tank to be the best that it can be for the shape that it is and when I learn knew things I pass on the information to them. I’ve been interested in the art of fish keeping and aqua gardening for about a year now and I’ve learned a great deal since I first started the hobby. I was thinking about the aquarium at my parents house and I wonder what species of fish would thrive best in a hexagon shaped aquarium because I know its a very unnatural shape for the aquarium environment. Do you know of any fish that wouldn’t mind living in a tall hexagon aquarium? Please also tell me if you have any of these fish, how old they are, and if they’ve grown since you first got them.
I have a 55 gallon (rectangle shaped) aquarium with 4 fan-tailed goldfish and a 10 gallon (rectangle shaped) tank with 5 white skirt tetras. I bought the tetras because I wanted to support buying unpainted fish.

How do you set up a fish aquarium for tropical and betta fish?

July 18th, 2011 3 comments

Question by gotitgood30: How do you set up a fish aquarium for tropical and betta fish?
I bought a used small aquarium for my 9 year old. It had gravel and plants and air pump. I filled it with water and put in my fish. I have regretfully killed about 10 fish including my pleco, 3 bettas, 3 gold fish, 4 tetras and Im unwilling to kill anymore. Ive tried changing the water every other day. I havent put these fish in at the same time as they are not completely compatable. But even in just a bowl, they still die. I have noticed some kind of fast growing green junk growing rapidly on the gravel that balloons into green puffy stuff.

Your tank may have been used for salt water before. If you want a fresh water, ask your local pet shop if you can wash the tank out. Just never use soap. Bare tanks are pretty cheap though. You didn’t mention weather or not you had a heater. Tropical fish need the warmer waters to survive. Good luck and God bless you!

Question by Elenore Mari: What fish should I get for my 20 gallon aquarium?
I’m cycling a 20 gallon aquarium at the moment. Once it is done cycling, I’m planning to get 3 zebra danios, and 3 glofish. (They are the same fish, just the glofish’s color is genetically altered, so they’ll school). So, what fish you guys think would get along(and look good) with these fish without overstocking my tank? Thanks! All answers are loved!

Splish, Splash – “Fish Tycoon for Windows” Debuts – PC Game Turns Computer into Real-Time, Virtual Aquarium

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 16, 2005

Honey, did you forget to feed the fish?

Last Day of Work is introducing “Fish Tycoon for Windows,” a PC game that simulates the real world of caring for exotic fish by requiring users to feed, nurture and monitor the virtual fish.

“Fish Tycoon for Windows” is unique among real-time games, in that the fish will continue to prosper, multiple, or die, even if the game is off. The game can only be suspended if set on pause.

This latest release by Last Day of Work (LDW) is a PC version of its highly popular “Fish Tycoon,” which was previously only available on mobile devices, such as Palm and Pocket PC devices. The mobile version has won several awards, including the Parents’ Choice Recommended Award.

“Fish Tycoon is the perfect combination of simulation and puzzle games, giving gamers the reward of solving a genetic riddle, as well as the endless immersion of a virtual aquarium.” said Arthur Humphrey, LDW’s chief executive. “Additionally, the real-time persistent world feature of the game makes it very addictive. Players always want to return to see what has changed since they last played.”

Fish Tycoon is set on the fictitious island of Isola, where the loss of seven magic fish has broken the ecosystem. Until the players find the magic fish and solve their genetic puzzle, they must nurture and breed exotic fish as a means to finance research on the mystical fish. Players sell the exotic fish in their virtual store and also use the proceeds to buy supplies, such as medication or eggs, to assist in the care of the fish.

A free trial version of Fish Tycoon is available for download and the full version of the game can be purchased for $ 19.95. For more information, please visit http://www.ldw.com/ft_win

Aquarium Forums Make Tropical Fish Care Easy at an Aquatic Reference Database, ARDB.com

Aquarium Forums, ARDB.com

Daly City, CA (PRWEB) March 11, 2011

Aquarium forums available at ardb.com provide a new way to connect for aquarium enthusiasts. The site has an abundance of information on tropical fish care, freshwater and saltwater fish. Whether the visitors to the site are just a beginner and getting familiar with aquariums and tropical fish or experienced hobbyists and have spent thousands on their saltwater tank setup, aquarium forums is the right place for everyone.

Who doesn’t like the calming view of an aquarium in their home but whom do they turn to with questions: “how do I set up my fish tank”, “what tropical fish do I get”, “do I want a freshwater aquarium or do I want to keep saltwater fish”. This is the reason the aquatic community, ARDB, has been created. It’s the right aquarium resource to ask questions in the fish forums or look for an article.

Articles, such setting up a fish tank for beginners, is one of many that offer help and advice to beginners in the aquarium hobby. More information about tropical fish is being added to the site on a regular basis and fish enthusiasts can also ask for aquarium advice in the forums.

Even if a person does not have an aquarium but would like to learn more about tropical fish care, ARDB is a great source of information about different types of both freshwater and saltwater fish. If potential aquarium enthusiasts are wondering whether the aquarium hobby is right for them, they can talk to other people and see what challenges await them.

Keeping tropical fish is an exciting hobby and discussions in the aquarium forums speak for themselves.

What kind of fish should i get for a 55 gallon aquarium?

June 25th, 2011 2 comments

Question by Payton: What kind of fish should i get for a 55 gallon aquarium?
I am a beginner in keeping a fish tank and a friend has given us a 55 gallon aquarium. I understand how to set up and maintain the tank, but I’m not sure what fish I should get. I really like the groups colorful fish, but don’t know how hard they are to maintain or what kind of fish they are. Koi fish seem interesting, yet I’m not sure how many I could have or if they are right for beginners.

Answer by Annie
If you like colourful fish Neon Tetras are good. They are smaller fish with bold colours. Guppies are pretty as well but apparently it’s hard to tell sex because often you wake up with more fish the next morning than the night before.
